CINCINNATI - The man accused of shooting and killing his father-in-law in front of his family in March was sentenced to life in prison when he appeared in court Tuesday morning.

Police said David Franks, 45, shot and killed his father-in-law, 76-year-old James Schobert at a Green Township condominium complex on March 11. In addition to shooting Schobert, Franks allegedly fired shots at three police officers.

Franks pleaded guilty to the charges in court Tuesday morning. Judge Steven Martin sentenced him to life in prison without parole plus 54 years.

No one from Schobert’s family attended the case, but the three police officers who were shot at were present, but did not speak in the case.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters had previously requested the death penalty in the case.
