MASON, Ohio - Kings Island officials announced this afternoon that the Son of Beast ride will be removed from the amusement park in order to make room for further expansion.

The park will begin to dismantle the ride later this summer.

The Son of Beast was shut down for a brief period of time in 2006 after several people filed lawsuits against the amusement park after they sustained injuries from the wooden roller coaster.

A faulty support on the roller coaster was blamed for the accident. The ride was closed again in 2009 following another complaint and has not reopened.

Kings Island is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company.
