Jewish Hospital Mammogram van at WCPO July 9

CINCINNATI - 9 Against Breast Cancer joined forces with the Jewish Hospital Mobile Mammography Van.

The van made a stop at WCPO on Monday, July 9 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The American Cancer Society recommends women age 40 and over get a screening mammogram once per year.

Screening mammography is usually a covered benefit with most insurance carriers. For women who are uninsured or underinsured financial assistance is available, call (513) 686-3310.

Mobile screening is designed for:

• Women 40 and over with no known breast problems
• Women under 40 with a family history of breast cancer
• Women who are not pregnant and have not breastfed in the past six months
• Women who have not had a screening mammogram in the last 11 months

Jewish Hospital has the following mammogram facts posted on its website

• Mammography is an X-ray technique that visualizes internal structures of the breast.
• Mammography can detect breast cancer up to two years before it can be felt.
• The mammography procedure takes less than 15 minutes to complete.
• While it is a very simple procedure, mammography can increase the diagnosis rate of breast cancer and in turn the cure rate by 90 percent or more.
• Statistically, approximately 12 - 15 percent of screening mammograms will show abnormalities that require follow-up care. This could be a physician consultation, follow-up mammogram or biopsy.
• An annual breast examination by a physician and regular self-examinations should accompany routine mammography to provide a complete screening program and the most timely diagnosis.
