Group to meet and discuss tree-killing beetle Tuesday

CINCINNATI - Some property owners worry that a proposal for eradicating a tree-killing beetle in southwest Ohio would take down thousands of healthy trees along with the infested ones.
 
   The Bethel ALB Citizens' Cooperative in Clermont County east of Cincinnati agrees that trees infested with the Asian longhorned beetle should be cut down. But it wants federal and state agricultural officials to look for methods that would spare trees that may not be infested.
 
 Agriculture officials are reviewing options and assessing their environmental effects. They say they want to save as many healthy trees as possible while still preventing the spread of the insect.
 
The cooperative plans a meeting on the matter Tuesday.
 

The bugs have been found in four other states, resulting in the removal of tens of thousands of trees.
