MIAMITOWN, Ohio - A major gas leak prompted the evacuation of several homes and buildings near State Route 128 and Main Street in Miamitown late Monday afternoon.

Police say a gas main ruptured at a residence located in a construction zone around 4 p.m.

Officials say due to Monday's rainy conditions, the humidity kept the gas lower to the ground than usual, which is why police and firefighters promptly evacuated the area.

Police say the area is now open and residents are allowed to return to their homes.

Construction crews were not working at the time of the leak, according to officials on the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.

No other information is available at this time.
