SAINT LEON, Ind. - Two people are dead following a multi-vehicle crash in Dearborn County Wednesday evening.
The accident happened near the 159 miles marker in Saint Leon, Ind., at about 5:40 p.m.
According to police, Frank Cox, 36, was traveling westbound on I-74 in a Ford F-250 when his vehicle blew a tire. Cox told police the vehicle jerked into the eastbound lanes on I-74 and struck two vehicles.
Police say Cox's 44-year-old passenger and a 47-year-old driver were killed in the collision.
A passenger of one of the vehicles, Mackeba Davenport, 44, of Cincinnati was transported by a medical helicopter to University Hospital. Cox was taken to Margret Mary Hospital for injuries that have not yet been released.
No other injuries were reported.
Police will not release the names of the deceased until their families are notified.
The entire interstate was shut down while crews worked to clear the scene. All westbound lanes were closed for about an hour and all eastbound lanes remained closed until around 8 p.m.
No other details were released at this time.
The accident remains under investigation.
