Police arrest driver involved in fatal hit-skip

CINCINNATI - The driver who Cincinnati police say hit and killed a motorcyclist then drove off appeared in court Tuesday Morning.

Police arrested Brittany Ison, 20, Monday and charged her with leaving the scene of a car accident, vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter.

The incident happened on northbound I-75 near I-74 around 7:20 a.m. Monday.

Jason Claypool, 39, of Burlington, Ky., was operating a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle when his bike was struck from behind by a 1993 Honda Civic. The impact forced Claypool, who was not wearing a helmet, into a guard rail, according to police.

Claypool was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Civic, Brittany Ison, 20, did not stop after the crash and fled on northbound I-75. Ison was arrested Monday night and transported to the Hamilton County Justice Center.

Ison is charged with leaving the scene of an auto accident and vehicular homicide. She was issued a $55,000 bond during her Tuesday arraignment.

"It's my understanding that she did initially stop after this incident and tried to aid this individual, there were several other people there, it's my understanding that she may have even tried to give the individual CPR to try to help him, she was told to stop by the other individuals and basically became frightened, knew the police were on the way, contacted them later on in the day, didn't know what to do," Ison's attorney explained in court.

The incident remains under investigation.
