CINCINNATI - Without her sight, a woman from the west side celebrates a very special birthday.
Mildred Kampam spends her free time volunteering at the Sycamore Senior Center. But on Sunday, Mildred was full of joy and laughter with friends, family and members of the community celebrating her 100th birthday at The Farm in Delhi Township.
Family members came from as far as Las Vegas, Nevada to recognize and surprise this inspirational woman.
"I can't tell you how surprised I am,.. I'm so very surprised," Mildred told 9 News when we sat down with her shortly after she arrived at her party.
Mildred works as a cashier at the senior center. But what makes her really stand out is the fact that she is legally blind. After doctors told Mildred she was going to lose her eyesight, she began preparing for the worst and made sure she could still do her job. Mildred taught herself how to tell money apart just by feeling it.
Happy birthday to you Mildred, and here's to many many more!
