Looking for a weekend getaway, but want to stay close to home? Or should I say really close to home? Travel site LonelyPlanet.com has ranked Cincinnati as its No. 3 U.S. travel destination in 2012.
Cincinnati beat out places like Boulder, Colo. and the Big Island of Hawaii.
Lonely Planet says the city gets bypassed by many road trippers, but makes for a worthy weekend getaway with our transformations over the last decade.
Lonely Planet calls Cincinnati "the pretty city on the Ohio River" and highlights the Mount Adams and Over-the-Rhine neighborhoods. While giving mention to many attractions in those areas such as the Cincinnati Art Museum and Findlay Market.
So while you may want to go to a luau or take to the slopes, maybe you should adventure around the Tri-State and see all it really has to offer.
Lonely Planet's 10 top picks that should be on your travel radar in 2012:
1. US Virgin Islands
2. Hudson River Valley, New York
