CINCINNATI - A Cincinnati police officer indicted on five felony charges for stealing from the city is scheduled to be in court Tuesday.

Officer Jose Laboy-Laviena is accused of bribery, theft in office and tampering with records after he allegedly stole $7,500 from the city and then tried to cover it up. Laboy-Laviena, a Hispanic police officer, allegedly made illegal deals with certain members of the Hispanic community during the crimes.

In April, a Hamilton County grand jury indicted the officer on two counts of bribery, two counts of theft in office and one count of tampering with evidence.

Laboy-Laviena is expected to take a plea deal and a judge may set a trial date during Tuesday’s hearing, which begins at 9 a.m.
