CINCINNATI - Dearborn County officials are likely to file charges on Friday for the murder of Leigh Jennings in Aurora a week ago.

Prosecutor Aaron Negangard plans to hold a news conference at 11 a.m. Friday in Lawrenceburg to provide new information in the case.

Jennings, 67, was found dead in her home on Aspen Ridge Drive by a neighbor on the night of Thursday April 5.

A person of interest in the case is believed to be the nephew of Bill and Peggy Stephenson, the Florence couple murdered last May in a case that remains unsolved.

That person of interest remains under 72-hour medical hold at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Florence.

Police say the man who lived on Old Stephenson Mill Road in Walton allegedly tried to take his own life Monday night as a search warrant was executed at his apartment . Records of that search warrant have been sealed in Boone County as have documents relating to what was found in Jennings' home in Aurora.

Jennings cut hair for 10 years at Young’s Barber Shop in Florence and her son said that’s where he believes the “person-of-interest” likely met his mother.

“She was a very caring person. She helped a lot of people. She helped a lot of younger people. People with problems,” Ryan Siebe said. “She was a very spiritual woman – loved by just about everyone that ever knew her.”

Sources said Wednesday that major developments may occur by the end of the week.

9 News will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
