DEERFIELD TWP., Ohio - A boy had to be rescued after becoming stuck in a creek in Deerfield Township Sunday night.

The boy became stuck around 8:30 p.m. in a creek in Landen Deerfield Park.

The Deerfield Township Fire Department says the pre-teen boy was walking his bike across the creek when he got caught up in the current and his bike was knocked loose.

The boy was swept down the creek, but he was able to get to a bank and hold on to a tree until fire crews used ropes to lower a rescuer down to him, about 30 feet down an incline. The boy was in the water for around one hour.

The boy was taken to the hospital with no severe injuries, just bumps and bruises, according to the fire department.

Fire officials say it was a blessing that the boy was able to hold on to the branch for so long.
