Boone and Warren counties rank as healthiest in Tri-State

Warren and Boone counties both made their state's top 10 list of healthiest counties.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, whose mission is to improve health care for Americans, released its 2013 health rankings Tuesday.

The rankings are determined by 25 factors, including childhood poverty, smoking, obesity, access to care and healthy foods.

Warren County ranked seventh in overall health in Ohio, with Delaware County, located just north of Columbus, ranking most healthy according to the 2012 survey.

Highlights of the County Health Rankings show only 17 percent of people in Warren County smoked, 27 percent of the population was considered obese and 10 percent were uninsured.

In Kentucky, Boone County ranked second highest for healthy living, just behind Oldham County that is located outside of Louisville, Ky.

According to the survey's findings, 19 percent of Boone County residents smoke, 31 percent were obese, and 12 percent were uninsured in 2012.

Ultimately, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation hopes its County Health Rankings and Roadmaps will be used to "understand the health problems" and "get more people involved in improving the health of communities."
