CINCINNATI - A crash that claimed the life of two teenage girls earlier this month in Milford Township may have been the result of texting while driving, according to the Butler County Sheriff's Office.

Miranda Lane and Mathilde Jessen, both 17, died after their Honda Civic pulled into the path of a tractor trailer at the intersection of Ohio 73 and U.S. 127 around 4:15 p.m. on May 3.

Sheriff Richard Jones said Monday it appears that Lane was texting on her cellphone in very close proximity to the actual time of the crash.

Lane and Jessen, a foreign exchange student from Denmark who was staying with her host family in Green Township, were both pronounced dead at the scene. A driver of a third vehicle involved in the crash was transported to University Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation as results of various toxicology reports and other tests are still pending.
