St. Xavier H.S. gets new principal from Chicago

FINNEYTOWN, Ohio - St. Xavier High School in Finneytown is getting a new principal next year.

Terrence H. Tyrrell will begin as principal in July, said the Rev. Timothy Howe, school president.

Tyrrell previously worked as assistant principal for student services at St. Ignatius College Preparatory School in Chicago for six years.  Before he became assistant principal, he served as director of student activities.

Tyrrell has a Bachelor’s degree in English and history from Wake Forest University, and a Master’s degree in educational administration from Loyola University in Chicago.

 "Mr. Tyrrell's passion for Jesuit education and his extensive experience working with teachers in their classrooms will contribute greatly to making the ambitious goals of our strategic plan a reality," said Howe, in a prepared statement.

Tyrrell will begin his job as principal at St. X on July 1.

Founded in 1831, St. Xavier is a Catholic, all-male school. It’s the oldest high school in Greater Cincinnati, and one of the oldest in the nation. The school has about 1,580 students.

Notable alumni include Hamilton County Sheriff Simon Leis Jr., Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters and John Barrett, CEO of Western & Southern Financial Group.
