Police seek suspect who held elderly woman at knifepoint, stole her car

COVINGTON, Ky. - Covington police are searching for a suspect who conducted a home invasion on an 84-year-old woman’s house Sunday and stole her car.

The Betty Schott, 84, who lives on Watson Avenue, told police that a white male entered her home through an unlocked door and held her at knifepoint.

The suspect forced Schott into into a bathroom, while the suspect stole her purse and other personal items. Upon leaving, the suspect also took the victim’s vehicle. It is identified as a 2001 red Ford Taurus, with license plate no. 515 DJD.

Anyone seeing the vehicle shouldn’t approach it, police said. Instead call 911 to report it.

Police say Schott thought it was one of her grandchildren coming to her house and was shocked when she a saw a man with a knife.

"This isn't a typical crime for us, especially in the Latonia area," said Covington Police Lt. Jim Donaldson.

Schott suffered a deep cut to one of her thumbs during the incident.

"She's the sweetest woman you could ever dream of having for a neighbor, she's just absolutely kind," said Derek Mohrmeyer.

Police say they have identified a person of interest, but have not made any arrests.
