RISING SUN, Ind. - An Indiana man was arrested Thursday in connection to the death of his girlfriend's 1-year-old son back in January.
Brian Woeste, 26, of Ohio County, is charged with killing Nolan Helfrich.
The investigation began on Jan. 18 when detectives went to Children's Hospital after Helfrich was seriously injured at his home in Rising Sun. On Jan. 20, the toddler died and the autopsy revealed that he suffered blunt force trauma to the head, neck and torso. The autopsy also revealed the injuries were "non-accidental" injuries and the manner of death was ruled as homicide.
Police said on Thursday that Woeste was the live-in boyfriend of Michelle Helfrich, Nolan's mother. On Jan. 18, while Michelle was attending class and Woeste was babysitting Nolan, the injuries occurred.
Woeste is being held in the Switzerland County Jail on charges of murder, battery resulting in death of a person less than 14 years of age and two counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
