BOONE COUNTY, Ky. -- The son of a former mayor and his wife who were found murdered earlier this summer is now charged with their killings.
Sheriff deputies say they have been gathering evidence for the last two months and that evidence now shows Michael Moore shot and killed both his parents at their Union home.
Michael Moore has been held at the Boone County Jail since July on drug charges.
He's now charged with murder, tampering with evidence, possession of a handgun, and falsely reporting an incident.
Back in June, emergency crews responded to the home of Warren and Madge Moore on Indian Hill Drive in Union to find the Moores and Michael suffering from gunshot wounds.
Warren and Madge Moore both died from gunshot wounds to the head.
Michael Moore suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. The gun used in the shootings belonged to Warren Moore, according to police.
Neighbors here say they had their suspicions and are glad to hear an arrest has been made.
"Its a big sigh of relief. Its a good feeling to know that after something like that happened that they caught person responsible for it. It's really good for the morale of the neighborhood," said Joe Newman, a neighbor.
Warren and Madge Moore lived in their home since the 1970's.
Warren served the city of Union for 27 years as Mayor and City Manager.
The Moores were well respected in the community.
A family member tells 9News they also got word of Moore's arrest on Friday. However, they did not wish to make a comment.
Michael is a former Warren County Sheriff's Deputy who made headlines back in 2004 when a grand jury indicted him for taking marijuana from the evidence room and for making meth in his garage.
Officials say the case remains under investigation.
