MADISON TWP, Ohio - A family had to jump from a second story window to escape a fire at their Madison Township home early Monday morning.

A fire started at a home in the 6300 block of Hursh Road at about 3:30 a.m. The family of five was inside the home at the time of the fire and managed to escape because of some quick thinking.

The parents were not able to go down the stairs because of smoke and heat, so they resorted to jumping out of the second story window of the house. No one sustained injuries in the fire or the jump from the window.

Fire crews responded to the scene and contained the fire to the kitchen. Officials say the house is structurally sound, but the kitchen is destroyed. Authorities have not yet released the estimated cost of damage to the home.
