Fairfield police arrest alleged burglar after foot chase

FAIRFIELD, Ohio - Fairfield police responded to a burglar alarm at a house Thursday evening and arrested an Indiana man after a foot chase through the neighborhood.

Officers responded to a residential alarm in the 3400 block of Cherryhill Drive at about 7:51 p.m. Upon arrival, police saw an individual in a room on the second floor of the house.

The suspect fled the home and officers chased after him. After using a police dog to track the suspect’s scent and going from house-to-house, the suspect was located hiding under a boat trailer in the neighborhood.

Benjamin Dirkhising of Brookville, Ind., was arrested for burglary and resisting arrest.

Dirkhising is being held at the Butler County Jail until his initial arraignment in Fairfield Municipal Court at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
