Butler County deputy helps deliver baby in back of car

TRENTON, Ohio (AP) - This Christmas will be particularly memorable for a Trenton woman and the sheriff's deputy who helped deliver her baby in the back of a car at a gasoline station.

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said that Heather Fitzgerald was unable to make it to a hospital on time after going into labor on Christmas Eve.So she pulled into a Speedway gas station and dialed 911 around 4 a.m.

Deputy David Runnells arrived to find Fitzgerald in heavy labor in the back seat of her car.

Runnells helped Fitzgerald deliver a baby girl while waiting on an ambulance.

Fitzgerald and her daughter are reportedly doing well at a nearby hospital.
