SANDUSKY, Ohio - Jailers in northwest Ohio say an inmate who died in his cell had been checked on minutes before they found him unresponsive.
Authorities say the 47-year-old man began acting strangely after taking a fall at the Erie County jail about two weeks ago and had been taken to a hospital four times since.
It's the second inmate death this year at the jail in Sandusky.
A 50-year-old woman died at the jail a few hours after she was brought in Jan. 1.
The Sandusky Register reports that preliminary information suggests a combination of alcohol and pills caused of the woman's death. Authorities are waiting for autopsy results.
