ATLANTA - Trying to cut down on sodium?  A lot of us are. Too much sodium increases our risk of high blood pressure, a major cause of heart disease and stroke.

When we think of sodium, we think of salty snacks like pretzels and chips.

But the Centers for Disease Control says, check out the label on your loaf of bread.  The CDC says bread and rolls are the Number One source of salt in the American diet, accounting for twice as much sodium as salty junk food like chips.

It's not actually that bread is saltier than those junk foods.  It's that people tend to eat a lot of bread.

So here's the list:

1. Bread and rolls

2. Cold cuts and cured meats

3. Pizza

4. Fresh and processed poultry

5. Soups

6. Fast-food burgers and sandwiches

7. Cheese

8. Pasta

9. Meatloaf and other meat dishes

10. Salty snacks, such as chips and pretzels

The CDC released its list on Tuesday (For mobile users go to http://www.cdc.gov/VitalSigns/Sodium/ ).
