The Student of the Week for Nov. 28 not only shines on the basketball court, but also in the classroom.
Whitney Wyckoff is a helpers in the community and as member of her school’s basketball team.
“She tutors, she does tons of community service,” said Lauri MacNeel, who nominated Wyckoff for the award. “She’s in all of our top leadership groups so when I think of her and when I think of someone I would like my own daughter to be, it’s Whitney Wyckoff.”
Wyckoff says she knows she caught some breaking in life and takes pride in doing what she can for others.
“It’s just rewarding to see people that can’t do things for themselves or whatever and I know that I’m really blessed and I’ve had a lot of things go right for me,” Wyckoff said.
Wyckoff has a 4.0 GPA. Even though she’s taking several advanced courses and plays sports, she still finds time to help others.
“She’s one of those amazing people who is kind and generous,” MacNeel said. “She’s very soft spoken off the court and exceptionally humble, but you put her on the basketball court and she becomes an absolute powerhouse.”
Wyckoff says it’s her example she sets that many people see her as a leader.
“I’m more excited to see what she becomes in the years to come,” MacNeel said. “ She just has so much potential and I just think anything she’s involved in is going to benefit from her presence.”
While Wyckoff is still not sure what she will study in college, she is going to play basketball at Yale.
Congratulations, Whitney Wyckoff! We’re proud to call you our Student of the Week.
