CINCINNATI - Michael Saxon is an inspiring student leader at Sycamore High School.
Saxon helps out in his community by volunteering for Operation Give Back where he tutors students after school.
"I find it very rewarding working with a lot of kids who are less fortunate, but I actually learn a lot from them. Just like I'm teaching them, I learn a lot about myself from them. Helping them really helps to motivate me as well," Saxon said.
Saxon is a member of Sycamore's varsity soccer team and a section editor for the school newspaper. His work with the paper led him to help out underprivileged kids.
"Actually I knew there was a need for it from my mom. She actually became connected with Operation Give Back when I was a freshman, and I went over there to write an article for Operation Give Back and once there I just really spend my time there and volunteer a lot," Saxon said.
He's also a part of the young men's scholars group, and thrives in the classroom where he maintains a 4.21 GPA. Saxon sets the bar high for his fellow students and helps them to reach their own goals.
"He holds them accountable in the work they do for him on the Leaf, but he also is an excellent role model for everyone that he touches... [Saxon] is a great asset to Sycamore High School, we need to remember his name because he's going places," said Karen Bare, an Assistant Principal at Sycamore.
After graduation, Saxon plans on studying journalism at Northwestern University.
