LEBANON, Ohio - Ryan Widmer's defense filed a notice of appeal Wednesday, a week after a judge denied his request for a fourth trial.
The paperwork came in near the close of business on Wednesday.
His defense told 9 News they planned to file the appeal to cover last week's decision that he will not get a fourth trial due to juror misconduct, but it is also an appeal of the trial and the motion his defense attorneys filed to find him not guilty and issue a judgement of acquittal.
In his third trial, Widmer was convicted in February of murdering his wife, Sarah, in their Hamilton Township home in 2008.
Widmer, 30, was convicted of killing his wife of four months in his first trial. However, that conviction was thrown out due to juror misconduct. The second trial ended in a hung jury.
He is currently serving 15 years to life in a prison in Orient, Ohio near Columbus.
