LEBANON, Ohio - The jury reached a verdict after nearly 12 hours of deliberation Tuesday and found Ryan Widmer guilty of murdering his wife in 2008.
Widmer began to cry nearly as soon as jurors re-entered the courtroom with their verdict and dropped to the table, burying his head in his hands as Judge Neal Bronson read the decision of the six man, six woman jury: "Guilty of murder."
"Judge, I did not do this. I don't know why this has to keep going on. I love Sarah. I would never hurt her. Never," Widmer told the crowded Warren County courtroom.
The murder conviction carries a penalty of 15 years to life. The sentencing phase of this case will begin soon.
