CINCINNATI - Accounting students at Xavier University are gearing up for a busy tax season and offering to help you prepare basic federal and state income taxes for free.

To qualify you must live in Norwood, Evanston, Avondale or on Xavier's campus. The first tax workshop is Feb. 18 by appointment only at the Schiff Conference Center. You can schedule your appointment by calling (513)745-2828.

Other dates available for tax assistance are March 4, March 11, March 18, April 1, April 8 and April 15.

The following items must be brought to the appointment:

  • a photo ID
  • your W2s, 1099s (your last pay stub is not enough)
  • Social Security Cards (for you, your spouse, and your dependents) - just bringing the number is NOT sufficient
  • any tax-related documents
  • a copy of last year's tax return (if possible)
