AKRON, Ohio - A driver was killed after crashing into a home in Northern Ohio early Friday morning.

According to Akron police, officers observed the car traveling at approximately 90 mph on East Avenue near Kenmore Boulevard. Patrol officers attempted to catch up to the car but by the time they turned around the car was out of sight.

Police said the driver went through a field at the intersection of Vernon Odom Boulevard and East Avenue and crashed into a house, ending up stuck in the basement.

The Akron Fire Department pronounced the driver dead and are working to stabilize the home before removing the victim and car from the basement of the house.

According to neighbors, the home is a rental property but is currently vacant.

The Summit County Coroner's Office is at the crash site.
