One of the businesses is Sloane Boutique on Vine Street. The owner, Duru Armagan, said she is excited about the chance to offer a 15 percent discount, and customers getting some extra appreciation from a major credit card company.

"We're not feeling abused at all," Armagan said. "If anything it benefits us."

Armagan said that buying locally keeps the customers' money in the city. She also expressed that small businesses bring variety to the consumer market.

"Without small business we wouldn't have anything unique," Armagan said.

One of the shoppers at Sloane on Friday, who wished to speak anonymously, expressed her support for buying from local small businesses.

"It's an independent store so they have different brands and styles that they don't have if you go to Nordstrom's or a Macy's or whatever."
