INDIANAPOLIS - A 13-year-old driver has been arrested after he wrecked an SUV, killing his passenger, police said.

The crash happened just after 6 p.m. near Arquette and Conway drives on Indianapolis' northeast side Tuesday.

Witnesses said the 13-year-old was speeding when he took the corner too quickly and flipped the SUV, ejecting his passenger.

"All I heard was a high speed screech. I looked down the end of my driveway and that SUV was just tumbling," said witness David Baldwin. "I just rolled (the victim) over and I (saw) he had massive head wounds."

Juan Carrillo, 26, was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

After being questioned by police Tuesday night, the 13-year-old was arrested on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, a felony, and operating a motor vehicle having never received a license, a misdemeanor.

The boy was being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.
