CINCINNATI - You've seen battery-operated sweater shavers, but for this week's Try It Out Tuesday, we are testing the Sweater Stone, which promises to rid your knits of that nasty pilling -- naturally.

It's like a pumice stone, and you just work it over a sweater to remove the pills. This test worked well, removed all the pills and left it looking like new.

But, unlike a traditional sweater shaver, which collects the residue -- this does not. So a little clean up is necessary.

The directions say it's mainly for knits, sweaters, towels, bedding and cashmere. We decided to push the envelope a bit and test it on a blazer with a fraying hem.

That part of the experiment was not a success.

But other than the mess, the sweater stone works as promised.

We picked it up at the container store for $7.99. This is an unscientific test with unscientific results.

As always, this in an unscientific test with unscientific results.
