ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. - Before you get out your favorite pint of ice cream to cool you down this summer, you better make sure it wasn't recently recalled.
Ben and Jerry's is recalling pint containers of its Chocolate Nougat Crunch Ice Cream: Sweet Cream Ice Cream with Fudge Covered Wafer Cookies and a Chocolate Nougat Swirl ("Chocolate Nougat Crunch"). The voluntary recall is because of an allergen advisory statement that is missing from the packaging.
The company said Tuesday that the following statement should have been included: Allergy Information: Fudge covered wafer pieces have been manufactured on shared equipment that processes peanuts and tree nuts.
However, this recall does not include 2.4 gallon containers of chocolate nougat crunch served at Ben & Jerry's franchised Scoop Shops.
The consumer product company says that so far, no illnesses have been reported. But, if you or someone you know have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts or tree nuts, you run the risk of a serious or life threatening reaction if the recalled product is consumed.
The recalled ice cream was sold across the U.S. through various retail stores in containers with the UPC code 7684020899. The date codes include JUL1113BJ1, JUL1213BJ1, AUG0113BJ1, AUG0213BJ1, AUG2313BJ1, AUG2413BJ1, AUG2513BJ1, SEP2013BJ1, SEP2113BJ1 and OCT2313BJ1. Date codes are located on the bottom of the pint containers.
No other Ben & Jerry products are impacted by the recall.
Consumers that purchased any of the pints involved in the recall should throw away the ice cream, rinse out the container and cut out and keep the UPC code. Consumers can them call 877-270-7397 to request a replacement coupon.
