CINCINNATI - Fresh Express Incorporated is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of bagged lettuce.

The recall includes expired 10 ounce bags of Hearts of Romaine salad with the expired use-by date of Aug. 23, 2012, and a product code beginning with G222.

Officials said the lettuce could be tainted with listeria, a bacteria found in soil that could cause food poisoning. Symptoms of infection may include fever, muscle aches, nausea or diarrhea.

No illnesses have been reported in association with the recall and no other Fresh Express products are being recalled.

The lettuce was possibly distributed in several southern and Midwestern states including Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and Tennessee.

Customers with questions may contact Fresh Express customer service representatives at 1-800-242-5472 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.
