No link in Pampers Dry Max diapers to rash

WASHINGTON - After reviewing incident reports and other information, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada found no specific cause linking Pampers Dry Max diapers to diaper rash.

"How is it possible that there are this many reports?  It can't be a coincidence, it can't, that that many babies used that diaper and had that same reaction. And you know the redness, the skin peeling off," said Fairfield mother Jennifer Timberlake who disagrees with the results.

From April through August 2010, CPSC received nearly 4,700 incident reports about diaper rash, with most coming in May.

CPSC staff explored clinical and toxological data found in medical literature and critically reviewed data submitted by Procter & Gamble on the diapers in coming to the conclusion that there is no specific link between the two.

While the investigation thus far does not find a link between the diapers and the health complaints, both agencies will continue to evaluate consumer complaints related to the diapers and will provide parents with updated information if this assessment changes.

The CPSC says most babies exhibit diaper rash at least once in their lifetime and suggest that parents discontinue use of the diaper and contact their pediatrician immediately if discovered.
