With a surge in support for a new ban on semi-automatic weapons after the Sandy Hook massacre, and some sporting goods stores pulling assault-style rifles off the shelves, Walmart reports a huge surge in sales of these weapons.

Bloomberg News says many Walmarts are now selling out of all semi-automatic guns as gun owners and sportsmen fear their sales may soon be banned.

Dick's Sporting Goods has already stopped the sale of assault rifles like those used in the Connecticut shootings, leaving Walmart as one of the few major retailers, besides Cabela's, that still offers them.

Walmart Stores Almost Sold Out

According to Walmart's website, semi automatic rifles are sold out in several states, including Walmart stores in the Cincinnati area.

A check by WCPO.com of several semi automatic rifles on Walmart's website made by Sig Sauer and Colt finds none available in a dozen stores within 50 miles of the 45202 (Cincinnati) ZIP code.

The store removed the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle believed used in the Newtown shootings earlier this week. The only Bushmaster listed on Walmart's site now is an Airsoft pellet gun.

Gun Magazines Sales Soar Too

Bloomberg News reports that large magazine clips are also selling out, as gun owners worry that sales of clips holding more than 20 bullets may soon be banned.

It says prices are tripling on eBay for ammunition magazines. It cites a 10-round Glock handgun magazine that was selling for $45 just two weeks ago now going for well over $100. eBay, however, does not sell larger 20 and 30 round clips.

As always, don't waste your money.
