Santa is starting to make his list, and check it twice. But this year, he's finding something that's not very nice.

Turns out the hottest toys of the 2012 Christmas season are rather expensive.

Toys R Us has just released its holiday hot toy list , and it's peppered with the usual dolls, electronics, and the return of the Furbie.

But Time Magazine says the bigger headline is not the annoying Furbie's return, but how much these hot toys will cost.

Of Toys R Us's Fabulous 15, 10 of them cost $50 or more, and seven cost $100 or more, according to Time.

But don't rush off to Walmart to cut your cost:  Time says the majority of Walmart's hot toys this year cost more than $50 as well.

One reason: Many of the hottest toys are electronic, like video game consoles, or interactive in some way.

Doesn't That Stink?

And from the "Doesn't that Stink" file, the fact that toy prices are increasing well beyond inflation.

The report says the average price on the hot list is $83, up from $62 last year. Doesn't that stink?

But don't blame tablets like the Leap Pad Explorer. The hottest Lego product this year -- the Ninjago Epic Dragon Battle -- costs $129.

In case you were wondering what the cheapest toy on the hot list is, it's the new Angry Birds app for just $9. Oh, but your kid needs a $200 iPod touch or $400 iPad to play it on.
