CINCINNATI - They say "nobody doesn't like Sara Lee." Well, apparently there is someone who doesn't like it: the Sara Lee company itself.
In an effort to reverse a decade-long sales slump, Sara Lee is dropping its name in favor of its Hillshire Farms.
The company itself will become Hillshire Brands, with Hillshire Farms, Jimmy Dean sausage, and Ball Park Franks as sub-brands. It is also spinning off its coffee and tea business, renaming it "D.E. Master Blenders."
Bakery Products Still Available
CNN/Money and other national publications are questioning the decision, as the "Sara Lee" name is part of the nation's vocabulary. Many people are unfamiliar with Hillshire Farms, which is known mostly for sliced lunch meat.
Good news, however: You should still be able to Sara Lee breads and cake, as it sold off the rights to its bakery logo and items six months ago to an international baking conglomerate based in Mexico, with US headquarters in Pennsylvania.
