Black Friday has come and gone, and so has Cyber Monday.

Now, Free Shipping Day is here, the latest shopping holiday, when more than 1,600 retailers are offering free shipping on Christmas gifts and almost anything else until midnight tonight, December 17, 2012.

But does this one offer the same type of discounts?  Not so, according to a study of Free Shipping Days over the past 3 years.

Sounds Great....But....

It sounds like a great deal on the surface, and a way to save $10 or more on shipping fees.

But the consumer site DealNews.com says Free Shipping Day could be a bust for many shoppers.

It warns that this is not Black Friday, and says you should not assume you are finding a great deal. You will not find big screen TV's slashed by hundreds of dollars, for instance.

It says free shipping is available all the time at Amazon, with a $25 or $30 purchase, as well as from Best Buy and other sites.

Beware Minimum Charges

In addition, it warns you to watch for minimum purchases to qualify for free shipping. Some stores are offering free shipping only if you buy $30 or $50 worth of merchandise.

That makes you spend more than you had planned to.

As always, don't waste your money.
