Meijer next to eliminate double coupons?

Two weeks after coupon blogging websites reported rumors of Meijer dropping double coupons, the regional chain now confirms that it is doing just that in some markets.

It all started, according to our Scripps' station WXYZ in Detroit, when bloggers posted pictures of store signs that say the company is ending double coupons after March 30 in many Michigan stores.

The company confirmed the rumors when it responded to a question on its Facebook page by saying it is "eliminating double coupons in our Battle Creek, Lansing, Ft. Wayne and South Bend Markets."

Not Cincinnati at this point

The posting goes on to say that they are evaluating other markets to "determine the appropriate coupon strategy for that specific market based on our opportunity to reinvest in low prices across all of out items."

The Facebook post ends with the company saying, "We believe that investing in lower prices across the store is more of a benefit to our customers."

Meijer store managers told WCPO.com that they have no plans to eliminate doubling the Cincinnati market for the foreseeable future.

However, Kroger stopped doubling coupons in Texas a couple of years before ending the practice in Cincinnati this year. So it appears that if the experiment is successful in Michigan, and does not lead to a drop in sales, Meijer may eliminate double coupons in more markets in the future.

As always, don't waste your money.
