A new month brings a new recall of one of the most popular SUVs in America: the Ford Escape

Ford's new 2013 redesigned Escape may be a great vehicle to drive, and Consumer Reports magazine gives it good reviews from its test drives.

But Ford is recalling it for the fourth time, an unusual number of recalls for a car that has been out just six months.

A Year of Recalls

Recall No. 1:  In July, 10,000 2013 Escapes (most still unsold and sitting on dealer lots) were recalled for carpeting that could cause the pedals to get stuck.

Recall No. 2: Also in July, the risk of a fire from a fuel line leak risk caused Ford to say "stop driving" it, and issue loaner cars to owners of 11,000 Escapes until it could be repaired.

Recall No. 3: In September, 7,600 Escapes were recalled for a possible coolant leak, because of an engine plug that could fall out.

Recall No. 4: And now, 89,000 Escapes are on the recall list again because of the risk of an engine fire, if the engine overheats and fluids leak onto the hot exhaust.

Ford has 13 reports of engine fires involving this latest problem with the Escape's 1.6 liter Turbo 4 cylinder engine.

If you own a 2013 Escape, you may want to check with your dealer to see if it is part of this latest recall.

That way you stay safe and you don't waste your money.
