Best Buy, hh gregg, even Target and Walmart are marking down TVs for the Super Bowl.
But which HDTV's are best?
Beware Super Cheap TV
Our partners at Consumer Reports magazine say many low priced LCD TVs have to be watched head-on, or you lose picture quality.
Chris Andrade of Consumer Reports said "in general, plasmas don't have a viewing angle issue, but it's a mixed bag when it comes to LCDs."
Another downside with cheap TVs, both LCD and plasma: Consumer Reports says many don't have good black levels.
It's especially noticeable on cheaper plasma TVs, where the black level can wash out.
Another thing to look for: As TVs got slimmer, sound quality suffered. But the latest tests show that audio is improving.
If you are looking for a TV for the big game, Consumer Reports says think big: It says many people buy a set that's too small for their room.
Top Plasma Ratings
For a big screen plasma, Consumer Reports recommends the 60-inch Panasonic Viera: It costs $1,400.
Panasonic's Viera 50-inch plasma also took top ratings, and is priced much lower at $800.
Top LCD Ratings
For popular 40 inch LCDs, Consumer Reports top choices are Samsung's LN40D630, AT $700. Also, Panasonic's Viera TC-L42030, at $1,000.
For 37 inch sizes, Consumer Reports top picks are the Panasonic Viera TV-L37E3, $600, and JVC JLC37BC300 at $370.
It also gives good ratings to several different Samsung and, Sony, and LG TV's in the 32 to 40 inch sizes.
As always don't waste your money.
