UPDATED 1/30/12:

So you're all ready to file your taxes. You head out to H&R Block, or sit down at TurboTax, roll up your sleeves, and suddenly, Houston, we have a problem.

You're missing a 1099.  Each year at this time, millions of taxpayers run into that problem as they try to file their taxes.

It turns out they are missing their 1099 from their bank , stating how much money they made on interest or dividends last year. Or your W-2 has not yet arrived.

Employers have until January 31st, 2012 to mail out W-2 forms.

Banks and brokerage firms have until February 15th, 2012 to mail out 1099's.

Don't file your taxes without them.  You may have to re-file. So don't waste your money.
