Angie's List members share the good, the bad and the ugly experiences they've had with health care providers. Here's a sample of our favorite reviews on AngiesList.com :
Doug and Kimberly Blum say their Fishers, Ind., primary care physician, Dr. Jessica Saberman , helped deliver a healthy baby and sparkling clean van to them. "I had my second in the van on the way to the hospital," Kimberly says. "Then when we got to the hospital, Dr. Saberman decided to pay for our van to be detailed. Our van was perfect when we got it back."Pamala D. says she was disturbed after seeing Dr. Gregg A. DeLisle in Huntsville, Ala., for prenatal care. "I went to him for an odd rash," Pamala says. "He barely looked at it, but told me it was pregnancy-related and would most likely go away. Less than one week later, I went back because I'd been experiencing flu-like symptoms. He told me to continue with fluids and rest. The next day, my son's teacher called to say she thought he may have Fifth disease. Both of us were diagnosed with it. I asked Dr. DeLisle about the prognosis and treatment - should it be contracted by the baby. He said I worried too much and asked too many questions." Dr. DeLisle did not respond to our request for comment.
Editor's note: Pamala says she switched to another ob/gyn and at press time her unborn baby was healthy.
Trisha S. of Seattle had a joyful birth thanks to her doula, Kim James. "Kim provided prenatal support," Trisha says. "My baby ended up being breech and Kim came when the doctors tried to turn the baby. I can't imagine what my experience would have been like without her by my side. My husband feels she was, perhaps, even more of a help to him!"
Dr. Hossein A. Aliabadi of St. Louis Park, Minn., put Wendy Skalicky's mind at ease when he fixed her infant's botched circumcision. "I was very nervous," Skalicky says. "Dr. Aliabadi was wonderful in explaining everything and he did a fantastic job. I hope to not have to use Dr. Aliabadi again, but if we do, I would gladly go back to him."
Tender Loving Childbirth is exactly what Todd and Marion Nelson of Pasadena, Calif., say they experienced. "I used a midwife from this service," Marion says. "I loved everything about Davi Kaur Khalsa. She came all the way to Pasadena from Los Angeles at four in the morning to help deliver my baby. She made me breakfast the morning of the birth and kept coming back the first couple weeks to check our well-being and to coach me in nursing."
Christa Stoudt of Versailles, Ky., says she was uncomfortable with the care Dr. Lynne Simms with Lexington Ob Gyn Associates delivered. "She broke my water at 2 centimeters in order to speed along the process, then wanted to do a cesarean because her shift was ending. In the end, I conceded to the operation, [which was] performed by another member from the practice. During my recovery, I had to argue with Dr. Simms for my release, because she wanted me to stay an additional day or two because my blood pressure was occasionally high and my insurance approved the extension." Dr. Simms did not respond to a request for comment.
Gretchen Duhaime sees Dr. Jeff L. Myers in Boston as a miracle worker after performing open heart surgery on her 3-month-old son. "It was a technically difficult surgery and it went perfectly," Duhaime says. "My son is almost 9 months and is a normal baby - thanks to Dr. Myers and his team."
