WCPO-Digital has partnered with Mercy - The Heart Institute to bring readers a special section celebrating American Heart Month.
It’s no accident that the blue Mercy Health logo seems to be popping up everywhere. Mercy Health is on a mission to help Greater Cincinnati be well. To deliver on that goal, the healthcare provider has expanded to include more than 100 locations.
“We’ve had deep roots in Greater Cincinnati’s neighborhoods for generations through our six hospitals,” said Mercy Health Director Nanette Bentley. “But our outreach is expanding to include more primary care practices, orthopaedists, cardiologists and other specialists—all working together as an integrated team.”
The new Mercy Health – West hospital is part the organization’s plan to make healthcare more accessible. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2013, the site was chosen for its easy-to-reach location. It’s situated just off I-275 in Green Township. For patients, that means shaving drive times in situations where seconds could count. It was also an opportunity to incorporate the latest advances in patient care into a brand new building.
Mercy Health’s scope has expanded too. With more than 9,000 employees and 2,000 affiliated physicians, the organization has invested in attracting the top medical talent in a wide array of specialties. That means providing them with advanced diagnostic and treatment tools.
Electronic patient records were introduced, helping Mercy Health continue to deliver highly personalized care. They offer doctors a fuller understanding of treatment being provided by other physicians within the Mercy Health network. That helps deliver on the promise of an integrated team working together in every patient’s best interests.
Those records add peace of mind for patients, too. Their histories are right there in any Mercy Health practice or hospital. There is no need for them to carry paper records. And there is less chance of duplicating services.
Prevention is an essential part of helping Greater Cincinnati be well. Wherever you live in the area, chances are there’s a Mercy HealthPlex nearby. Staffed with fitness experts and nutritionists, there’s something to inspire nearly everyone to stay active.
A Wellness Discovery Program, created in partnership with cardiologists from Mercy Health – The Heart Institute, is launching now at the HealthPlex. The program introduces non-exercisers with existing health problems to better diet and exercise routines. Classes are held twice a week and are discounted for patients referred by a physician.
Physicians at Mercy Health are delivering the highest quality of care—and achieving national recognition for it. In some cases, they are pioneering treatments unavailable anywhere else in the area. By investing in new technologies, Mercy Health enables doctors to improve the quality of life for patients throughout our region.
Despite all of the changes and advances at Mercy Health, some things remain the same. For more than 160 years, the organization has been committed to serving the community. The mission at Mercy Health is timeless and simple: Extend the healing ministry of Jesus by improving the health of our communities with an emphasis on the people who are poor and underserved.
The next time you see the blue Mercy Health logo in your neighborhood you’ll know why it’s there. It’s a place for you to go to: be well.
