CINCINNATI - February is American Heart Month — a time of year when people evaluate the nationwide problem of heart and blood disease and are encouraged to check their own heart health, too. While the month is observed around the country, the Tri-State is offering a long list of events aimed at keeping the heart healthy and informing people about maintaining that health.

Friday, Feb. 1

Wear Red Event: Fairfield
Mercy Health – Fairfield Hospital presents the Wear Red event, which runs from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in the lobby of the hospital, located at 3000 Mack Road, Fairfield. Rosie Red will kick-off this fun and informative event, which is all about heart-healthy living. Wear something red and celebrate better heart health by visiting informational booths, enjoying healthy cooking demos and free healthy snacks, trying your luck with a raffle and scoring some great giveaways.

Wear Red Event: Mason
Mason Community Center invites you to show your support for heart disease research and education by wearing red in recognition of Go Red for Women. If you wear red to Mason Community Center at 6050 Mason-Montgomery Road, stop by one of the customer service desks to be entered in a drawing to win a gift card to Kroger.

Heart Rally: Kenwood
The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health hosts a Heart Rally in the west Atrium of the hospital from noon to 1:30 p.m. Interventional cardiologist and peripheral vascular disease specialist Jonathan A. Rapp, MD, will present information on heart health and a heart disease patient and survivor will share her story.

Cardiovascular Van: Wilder, Ky.
Using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, the mobile unit can perform an array of on-site tests aimed at detecting all manner of risky healthy conditions. The van be will at Town and Country in Wilder, Ky., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Saturday, Feb. 2

Heart Matters: Erlanger, Ky.
The St. Elizabeth Cardio Vascular Mobile Health Unit will present a free brunch and education session to learn more about hear disease and preventative measure for a healthier heart. The session will be on Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the METS Center on 3816 Olympic Boulevard in Erlanger.

Cardiovascular Van: Erlanger, Ky.
Using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, the mobile unit can perform an array of on-site tests aimed at detecting all manner of risky healthy conditions. The van be will at Heart Matters Brunch, METS Center in Erlanger, Ky., from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 

Tuesday, Feb. 5

Wellness by the Book: Crestview Hills, Ky.
St. Elizabeth Healthcare and Joseph Beth Booksellers have partnerned to bring you the speaker series that discusses hot topics surrounding health and wellness. On Tuesday, Feb. 5, the series will feature a guide to heart and vascular disease from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Joseph Beth Booksellers on 2785 Dixie Highway in Crestview Hills.

Heart Healthy Nutrition Class: Crestview Hills, Ky.
A heart-healthy nutrition class will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Holistic Health Center at 210 Thomas More Parkway in Crestview Hills. The class teaches about healthy food choices, healthy portions, how to cook and maintain optimal nutritional value of foods and more. For reservations, call (859) 301-5959.

Cardiovascular Van: Dry Ridge, Ky.
Using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, the mobile unit can perform an array of on-site tests aimed at detecting all manner of risky healthy conditions. The van be will at Bank of Kentucky in Dry Ridge, Ky., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Thursday, Feb. 7

“Are You at Risk for Congestive Heart Failure?” Mt. Airy
The lecture runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in rooms ABCD at the hospital, located at 2446 Kipling Ave., Cincinnati, 45239. Dr. Lynne Wagoner, a cardiologist with Mercy Health - The Heart Institute, will discuss congestive heart failure and what you can do to prevent this chronic condition from altering your lifestyle. Clermont Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Heart Healthy Luncheon: Batavia
The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mercy Health-Clermont Hospital located at 3000 Hospital Drive in Batavia.  Attendees will enjoy a heart-healthy lunch and the opportunity to network before hearing from keynote speaker Lynne Wagoner, MD, of Mercy Health - The Heart Institute. Cooking with a Cardiologist: Blue Ash
Learn about the symptoms and treatments of heart failure with Santosh Menon, M.D. Also, see Chef Kim’s demonstration of how to cook a low sodium meal. Seating is limited. A Taste of Health for Your Heart: Florence, Ky.
Remke bigg’s and St. Elizabeth are sponsoring a free event at the Rempke Bigg’s at 6920 Burlington Pike in Florence. The grocery store’s chefs will cook up dishes for guests to sample while experts from the hospital offer tips on how to get healthy, manage stress and take care of your heart. Cardiology Updates: Cincinnati

The Heart Affair for Women: Anderson
The event runs from 4-7 p.m. at The Anderson Center, located at 7850 Five Mile Road. Mercy Health will offer health screenings from 4-6 p.m. Then, attendees can learn more about women’s heart health from a leading cardiologist, heart surgeon and an emergency room physician.

Mercy Women’s 2013 Heart Affair for Women: Cincinnati, Ohio
The Heart Affair for Women educates females about the cause of heart disease and offers preventative strategies. Featured speaker, Mercy Health Physician Rajinder P. Singh, MD, will address heart health challenges unique to women. The event takes place at the Anderson Center, 7850 Five Mile Road. Tickets are $10.

Cardiovascular Van: Hidden Valley, Ind.

“Chest Pains: Indigestion or a Heart Attack?” at Mercy Health - Western Hills
A lecture runs from 6-7 p.m. in rooms A&B at Mercy Health - Western Hills HealthPlex, located at 3131 Queen City Avenue. 2013 Cincinnati Heart Ball: Cincinnati
The Heart Ball, hosted by the Cincinnati chapter of the American Heart Association, is an event where community members, medical professionals and corporate leaders come together to celebrate the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association. The event, which begins at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the Duke Energy Center, has a gourmet dinner, silent auction and entertainment. Using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, the mobile unit can perform an array of on-site tests aimed at detecting all manner of risky healthy conditions. The van be will at the Northern Kentucky Senior Center in Covington, Ky., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Thursday, Feb. 28

Cardiovascular Van: Warsaw, Ky.
Using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, the mobile unit can perform an array of on-site tests aimed at detecting all manner of risky healthy conditions. The van be will at the Gallatin County Library in Warsaw, Ky., from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
