A controversial website is offering to connect younger women desiring financial help to wealthy older men who can provide cash for companionship.
ABC’s Alex Perez and Aude Soichet investigated the world of “sugar daddies” and “sugar babies,” who live in a curious existence that appears to border the lines of prostitution.
Such a relationship often is the product of SeekingArrangement.com, a website that matches sugar daddies with sugar babies.
Some men, such as 63-year-old Tommy, have as many as seven sugar babies, and some of the young women, who need money to get through college or for rent, are companions to multiple older men.
A lot of those relationships involve sex, but they are legal arrangements that are not considered prostitution. The money is exchanged for companionship, many sugar daddies say, but not directly sex.
"The sugar daddy and sugar baby relationship is far from prostitution," said Brandon Wade, founder of SeekingArrangement.com. "It's about a romantic relationship between two people. The only difference is a sugar daddy is very wealthy."
