CINCINNATI - A team of local organizations is making sure that materials from a building being torn down in Avondale don't go to waste.

Building Value is a local nonprofit building materials re-use center and deconstruction service. It's teaming up with Rumpke and the Uptown Consortium for an earth-friendly demolition on Monday.

Starting at 10 a.m. the building at 3500 Burnet in Avondale will be deconstructed.

The team plans to achieve LEED platinum demolition standards, which means repurposing or recycling 90 percent of the building's materials.

Building Value will salvage many of the interior building materials and decorative architectural elements. Those materials will then be made available for re-introduction in local remodeling projects.

All unsalvageable wood will be mulched by Rumpke Recycling.

Following the deconstruction, ACT Recycling will finish the job by recycling whatever is left; mostly bricks and concrete foundation.
