It's Lance,

It's Valentine's Day everywhere.  Everywhere that is, except for my son's pre-school. There it is being called "Friendship Day".  Friendship day?  What is that? I fear it is another piece of political correctness, that's what it is.

I am assuming that it is not called Valentine's Day there because of concerns over love themes at the Pre-K age level.  Instead "being friends" is much safer.

I am all about about maintaining a child's innocence as long as possible, but this is a bit much. I feel pretty safe as Benji's daddy that he is not going to run out and marry a classmate tomorrow if he is exposed to Valentine's Day.

I actually looked up Friendship Day on Wiki. It only exists in Paraguay or someplace, and it happens in August.

Might I also add that the students are allowed to bring in Valentine's Day cards to give to each other in honor of Friendship Day.

I fear that some of the themes on the kids' Valentine's cards and those chalk-tasting candy hearts might be too spicy for "Friendship Day" standards.

As a result, I suggest the following changes to their cards and candies to be more Friendship Day compliant:

  • "Be Mine?" That theme now becomes "Be Mine In A Strictly Friend Kind Of Way."
  • "Hot Stuff!"  That now becomes "Hot Stuff Is What Gives Me A Tummy Ache."
  • "You Are Special!"  That now becomes "You Are Just As Special As Everyone Else In My Class, But No More!"
  • "XOXO" That now becomes "X and O are just two letters of the alphabet that I know".
  • "You're a 10!"  That now becomes "I can count to 10!"
  • "Let's Kiss!" That now becomes "Let's sit next to each other during story time!"
  • "Cuddle Time!"  That now becomes "Potty Time!"

Last night at 11, I reported on a Tri-State flight company that specializes in the Mile High Club.  It was so interesting that other news organizations tried to rip it off.  Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, I suppose.  Here's the story everyone is talking about still today:
