Hello, weekend. I’ve missed you so. And I will enjoy you immensely.
-Last night I emceed the Junior Achievement’s Greater Cincinnati Business Hall Of Fame banquet, where some of the best and brightest in local business are honored for their contributions. There were five laureates last night, and each was extremely worthy.
But here’s what I noticed. Their businesses are those that every one of us need. Trash removal. Caskets. Gas and electric. Construction. The basics. And the men who were honored had that business savvy that catapulted these businesses from good ideas to great ones. We should think about this when guiding our kids into professions.
-I heard some spokesperson from American Airlines talking about those seats that have been coming loose in flight. He said that the reason the locking mechanism doesn’t work is because people spilled soda and coffee on them.
Really? So the difference between a safe flight and a potential deadly one is the sloppy kid with a ginger ale in the middle seat?
What this airline official (who clearly must have a background in chemistry) is suggesting is that that soda you’ll down for lunch – or really, an amalgam of a bunch of sodas- are capable of eating through inch-thick metal.
If that’s the case, then sodas should be on the airport banned list, along with box cutters and knives. Deadly weapons, one and all.
Try again, PR dude.
- Come Monday, we will be suffering from one heck of a sports hangover. No. 23 UC plays Miami this weekend in the 117th Victory Bell game. Oh, and it’s also Homecoming in Clifton. Just a bit later, the Reds will face San Francisco in what I believe will be their first win in the NLDS. Next day? Bengals vs. Miami at Paul Brown Stadium. Take a deep breath and a couple of aspirin and dive on in.
